F.M. FRANZ, SR. NAMED PRESIDENT
OF MAYSVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE CO.
MAY 4, 1955
(By Mrs. Jospehine Reel, Maysville Correspondent)

After having had several fires in the community, two of which destroyed the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Rohrbaugh and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Parsons, the men of this community have organized a volunteer fire company, which is much needed.

At the meeting on April 22, at Dewey Alt's garage the following officers were elected:  President F.M. Franz, Sr., Vice-President Claude Groves; Secretary and Treasurer Gerald Bosley; Fire Chief Dewey Alt; Assistant Fire Chief Ernest Franz; Chaplain Carl Weimer; Captain R.C. Kimble; 1st Lieutenant Floyd Franz, Jr.; 2nd Lieutenant Bernard Cook; Sergeants at Arms Emory Feaster and Philip Reel.

Trustees elected were:  Otis Keplinger, 3 years; Gordon Cook, 2 years; and William Reel, 1 year.

Ernest Franz and Gerald Bosley were named to the building committee, Dewey Alt and Ernest Franz were appointed to take charge of the new pump when it arrives.  The sired arrived Saturday and at the present
time is installed at Alt's garage.

Other members of the fire company are ...(unreadable)..... Charles Franz, Woodrow Porter, Marcus Groves, Marvin Thorne, Gerald Thorne, Ernest Schell, Arlie Berg, Robert Nesselrodt, Robert Evans and Clarence Hesse.

Meetings are being held on the first and third Monday nights of each month, and until a fire house can be constructed are meeting in the Alt garage.

One May 13th at 7 p.m. the Moorefield and Petersburg Fire Companies will give the Maysville Fire Company a demonstration at the Maysville school house.

Hugh Allen, Joe Harman, Robert Hill and Dick Mongold of the Petersburg Fire Company were speakers at the meeting on May 2, which we think was very helpful to us.

Much work has been done and much is yet to do, but a fire company is needed in the area, and anyone who wishes to contribute to the fire company may do so by contacting any of the members.  A complete list of contributors will appear at a later date.
